The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is a global communion of national and regional Lutheran denominations headquartered in the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, Switzerland. The federation was founded in the Swedish city of Lund in the aftermath of the Second World War in 1947 to coordinate the activities of the many differing Lutheran churches. Since 1984, the member churches are in pulpit and altar fellowship, with common doctrine as the basis of membership and mission activity.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Project Implementation:

  • Liaising with and working in cooperation with the relevant local authorities, community leaders, and nongovernmental organizations, collaborating/implementing partners and other stakeholders where appropriate in order to achieve the project objectives and facilitate project implementation.
  • Collects and tabulates on a regular basis field data on project activities carried out
  • conducts other assessments using participatory approaches for all beneficiaries to determine the relevance and impacts of the project.
  • Regularly visits all the beneficiary sites where all project activities are undertaken, checks on the progress, offers support as directed by the project officer in line with the project objectives.
  • The psychosocial counsellor will be responsible for supporting the various psychosocial support activities in the settlement.
  • Conducts a daily visual assessment of persons of concern (POC) and ensure a variety of structured psychosocial interventions within the settlement, catering to the needs of POC of different ages, genders, and abilities.

Position in Organization:

  • Position: Psychosocial Counsellor
  • Location: Adjumani, Northern Region, Uganda

Qualification:

  • University Degree in community psychology, guidance and counselling and any other health psychology related studies.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in Project Management/Community Development programming;
  • Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing community mobilization projects.

Special Skills, Aptitude or Personality Requirements:

  • Problem Solving and Decision-Making skills;
  • Ability to inspire and build capacity of community-based facilitators/community structures
  • Good interpersonal skills and excellent negotiation skills;
  • Excellent English Language (both written and spoken);
  • Information Technology (MS Office, Internet);
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines;
  • Good team worker with good communication skills;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, to remain flexible to a changing environment, and to make decisions independently.
