Job Summary:

The laboratory assistant will ensure that laboratory services at the health unit are well managed, laboratory investigations on clients are carried out in according to standard/policies and recorded on the patient’s book. She/he will be responsible for generating list of the necessary resources required for running laboratory section, ensuring laboratory equipment are maintained, and adequate laboratory reagents and supplies are requested and effectively used.

  • Perform laboratory tests accurately and in a timely manner to produce correct test results.
  • Maintain and keep updated records of all laboratory samples and results before handing over to the clinicians.
  • Collect, receive, evaluate and process various biological specimen for analysis.
  • Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies and document procedural calibrations and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy work area and follow all safety regulations when handling laboratory specimens.
  • Order supplies update stock cards and maintain an inventory of all equipment and reagents.
  • Promptly report and document all laboratory related accident (injury and exposure) and unsafe conditions to the immediate supervisor.
  • Organize and maintain laboratory storage, samples and specimens collected from clients.
  • Participate in an External Quality Assessment schemes as will be planned by the supervisor.

  • Responsible to: Clinical Officer/Health Facility In-charge
  • Number of positions: 1
  • Work Station: Ofua VI -Rhino-camp.

Qualification:

The qualified candidate should have a Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognizable institution, must be registered with Allied Health Professional Council with a valid practicing with at least:

  • 2 years’ experience in a health care related field preferably in a refugee setting.
  • Basic knowledge of performing quality controls and quality assurance.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practice.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and dedicated to provide the best patient care possible
  • Fluency in the local languages such as Kakwa, Madi, Arabic and Lugbara is preferable
  • Ability and willingness to live and stay within Ofua trading centre in Rhino Camp for ease of access to the health facility
