Formed in 1974, the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA Uganda) is a membership-based feminist organisation that provides legal aid services through a strategic network of offices reaching into 20 districts across the country. These offices, led by a national-level office in Kampala, are supported by lawyers, FIDA Uganda members, Community Legal Volunteers, and local authorities.

The FIDA has published a job vacancy announcement on Feb. 24, 2023 for qualified Uganda’s to fill in the vacant post of Legal Officer to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

FIDA Job Vacancy 2023

Purpose:

• The Legal Officer is responsible to oversee the overall implementation of all project activities in the designated district. Specifically, ensuring client’s support needs are identified and addressed with a gender lens through direct support (litigation, ADR, follow up) or referrals; create and strengthen strategic partnerships to advance FIDA-Uganda’s work within the districts of operation; Negotiate, draft or review contracts and agreements on behalf of the organization; Monitor and record strategic interventions; develop periodic reports, among others.

Position in Organization:

• Name Of Post = Legal Officer
• Location = The Secretariat Office: Robert Mugabe Road off Chwa 11, Mbuya, Kampala – Uganda.

Qualification:

• Honours Degree in Law from a recognized University;
• Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre;
• Enrolled Advocate with valid Practicing Certificate;
• Diploma in project planning and management is an added advantage;
• At least one (1) year experience working with Civil Society Organizations.
• Negotiation, mediation, conciliation and arbitration, trial advocacy skills.
• Excellent research, analytical, writing and presentation skills, among others
