IGCP Uganda looking for “Laboratory Chemist”.

IGCP was formed in 1991 to address the long-term conservation of the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and its regional afromontane forest habitat in the Virunga Bwindi Landscape. Our aim has been to work together as a single gorilla conservation program in order to expand and consolidate the successes of the Mountain Gorilla Project and other initiatives at a regional level.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain good working conditions of equipment and tools.
  • Ensure good storage and monitoring of representative samples.
  • Undertake chemical tests on leady oxide, residual lead, etc.
  • Carry out and correct sample preparations and metal alloy analysis using OES, AAS, ICP.
  • Routine sampling and testing of treated wastewater quality.
  • Compliance with health and safety guidelines.
  • Preparation of daily, weekly test reports.
  • Carry out internal calibration of all equipment in the laboratory.
  • Inspection of received raw material (battery scrap and plate scrap).

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ Diploma in Science Laboratory, Industrial Chemistry Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, EOHS guidelines, Kaizen and Cleaner Technology
  • Experience with HACCP, PDCA, Kaizen 5s and material storage.
  • Laboratory and trouble shooting skills.
  • Communication and decision making skills.
  • Planning and organizing skills.
  • Analytical interpretation of laboratory results.
