SNV Job Vacancy 2023

The specific objectives:

  • Understand the current practice regarding animal draught power (ADP) application and the extent (scale) and for which ADP is applied/used in Busoga Subregion; and what are the common animals that provide ADP and the initial investments/costs involved.
  • Examine socio-economic factors influencing the adoption and sustainability of animal draft power.
  • Assess the farm operations to which ADP is commonly deployed in the region and to identify the current constrains, their causes and effects, gaps and opportunities for improved use and soil management.
  • Understand the level of knowledge and skills of animal holders/operators in regard to animal nutrition, health and management aspects, and assess whether the animal owners have the required competence to manage draught animals.
  • Understand what infrastructure exists under operation and maintenance, Veterinary services and equipment supply.
  • Evaluation of animal draught power equipment. Identification of opportunities and recommendations for improved and additional tools and implements. Assessment whether there is an existing network of artisans or other service providers around the animal traction innovation.
  • Understand factors limiting popularization of the ADP innovation in Busoga subregion and Uganda; and what strategies could be put in place to popularize ADP application in the region.

Qualification:

SNV (INCLUDE) would like to procure services of consultants (based in Uganda) with the following skill set and experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in conducting studies and research in farming systems.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in working with animal draught power innovations, with verifiable track record.
  • Ability to conduct to study within the given timeline.
  • Ability to produce a concise and clear report with data, assessment of data, conclusions and recommendation in the English language.
