JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the overall supervision of the Senior Programme Officer with a functional reporting line to the Country Representative, the Temporal Project Officer will assist in the coordination and implementation of the following projects in Eastern Uganda, namely;

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Project implemented by the government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment.

2Technical supervision of implementation of catchment management measures in Lwakhakha sub catchment, implemented by the government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment.

Implementation of full scale source protection measures in Mbale implemented by the government of Uganda through National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

Stabilizing Land Use: Protected Area (PA) categories V and VI as landscape mechanisms for enhancing biodiversity in agricultural land, ecological connectivity and REDD+ implementation.

Specific tasks:

  • Project management, administration and implementation;
  • Organise, supervise and support the implementation of the assigned project activities, including those to be implemented in the various sites in Eastern Uganda;
  • Manage projects’ budgets accordingly to the work plan;
  • Assist in the supervision of in-country project consultants employed for the implementation of the projects;
  • Organise and/or assist in the organisation and implementation of workshops, seminars and training activities, and provide technical guidance and logistical support to these events;
  • Work and coordinate with government, other implementing organisations as well as other stakeholders in the implementation of the projects’ activities.
  • Contribute to the implementation of regional assignments when required.
  • With support from the Senior Program Officer, provide monthly updates on the projects to the program team.
  • Project planning, assessment and reporting;
  • Assist in drawing up of detailed work plans, listing activities, timelines and responsibilities;
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, according to the project’s agreements and internal institutional monitoring requirements;
  • Facilitate external monitoring and evaluation processes relating to the projects, where necessary.

Qualification:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to natural resource management. A Masters’ degree will be an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Natural Resource Management and governance, forestry, biodiversity conservation, water resources management and sustainable livelihood enhancement.
  • Basic understanding on the current Catchment based Integrated Water Resources Management process

Experience:

  • At least five years’ work experience in managing and coordinating projects within the environment sector.
  • Proven experience in participatory natural resource management. Experience in Uganda is required;
  • Proven ability to organise and facilitate multi-stakeholder participatory processes;
  • Proven ability to undertake community level demonstration activities on natural resource management and livelihood enhancement
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-partner environment.
  • Proven ability in project management and administration.
  • Ability to communicate with different partners and stakeholders.
