Major Responsibilities

• Manage IRC legal assistance program in line with research recommendations, existing strategy, proposals and donor requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with other actors
• Manage the partnership for legal representation activities
• Recruit and provide technical training to the field teams, providing extensive support to the Legal Officers.
• Design context-specific guidance, standards and tools on different approaches and strategies on access to legal assistance in-line with IRC’s A2J guidance and best practices.
• Work closely with the Legal Officers to support management of challenging cases.
• Regularly update the paralegal guidance manual and information materials as needed to ensure accurate information dissemination based on ongoing context analysis of the current situation in the settlements and urban environment.
• Track and regularly report on program deliverables and targets per donor requirements to the Deputy PROL Coordinator and Protection Coordinator.
• Prepare regular written updates of work conducted and scheduled.

Qualification:

• A Bachelor’s degree in law
• At least 4 years’ experience in a legal firm or an access to justice programme.
• 3 years minimum experience of managing advocates or Legal Officers.
• Good knowledge of international human rights and humanitarian protection standards and principles, especially those related to civil documentation and legal identity, including implications related to gender or displacement.
• Very familiar with legal concepts, law and practices of the Ugandan legal system.
• Experience with capacity building, including training of trainers, adult learning approaches and remote capacity building
• Experience managing NGO programs is desired.
• High standards written and spoken English is required.
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
