UNODC Job Vacancy 2023

Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located within the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) in the Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSAF) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with duty station Cape Town, South Africa. The Programme Coordinator (GMCP, Indian Ocean West) will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Officer heading GMCP, and the overall guidance ROSAF and the UNODC Regional Representative for Southern Africa (ROSAF).

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in justice, law, criminology, business administration, information management or other relevant social or political area with adequate focus on law enforcement issues, is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in a relevant military or naval service, law enforcement, or in the fields of crime prevention, criminal justice and/or programme management as they relate to maritime law enforcement is required.
  • Work experience in international cooperation in the maritime area including participation in joint military operations and maritime law enforcement is required.
  • Solid work experience in planning, training and in operational roles is required.
  • Work experience in project/programme elaboration, implementation and monitoring is required.
  • Work experience in planning, training, conducting, and assessing maritime law enforcement operations is desirable.
  • Work experience with conflict and post conflict countries is desirable.
  • Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
