GIZ Job Vacancy 2022
Job description: On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the project “South African-German Energy Programme: Capacities for the Energy Transition (SAGEN-CET)” supports stakeholders at national and local level in implementing the South African energy transition. These stakeholders include the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, the regulatory authority, the state-owned power utility Eskom and municipal distribution utilities. Key to the energy transition is a comprehensive reform of the power sector towards the unbundling of the vertically integrated utility Eskom, the establishment of a competitive electricity market, and the corresponding adaptation of the regulatory framework. SAGEN-CET consults key stakeholders on these issues. This is accompanied by high-level dialogue events to raise awareness of the challenges and increase the problem-solving skills of power sector professionals and managers. In cooperation with South African universities, further training courses are developed in order to equip professionals with the skills needed to participate in the transitioning sector. In addition, selected technology innovations are promoted that can contribute to the energy transition.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Completed university studies in the field of law or economics with a focus on regulation, energy management or comparable courses of study
- Proven qualification and several years of work experience in the field of electricity market reform and electricity market regulation both in Europe and internationally
- Several years of relevant professional experience in the energy sector, preferably gained in developing or emerging countries
- Strategic competence and proven ability to work conceptually
- Strong competencies in intercultural policy formulation and technical consulting at all hierarchical levels
- Strong (project) management and networking skills as well as a high level of team spirit
- Business fluent in English
