IGCP Zambia looking for “Primary Level Associate Teachers”.

IGCP was formed in 1991 to address the long-term conservation of the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and its regional afromontane forest habitat in the Virunga Bwindi Landscape. Our aim has been to work together as a single gorilla conservation program in order to expand and consolidate the successes of the Mountain Gorilla Project and other initiatives at a regional level.

Job Responsibilities;

  • Teach all areas of the primary school curriculum.
  • Take responsibility for the progress of a class of primary-age pupils.
  • Organize the classroom and learning resources and create displays to encourage a positive learning environment.
    Plan, prepare and present lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the class.
  • Prepare and mark work to facilitate positive pupil development.
  • Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, teaching assistants and other relevant professionals to plan and coordinate work.
  • Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, and support colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area.
  • Running extracurricular activities such as clubs, social activities, and sports events.
  • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations.
  • Maintain discipline and provide a safe & healthy environment.
  • Ensure that pupils are safe and that all child protection and safeguarding measures are followed per AYC child protection and safeguarding policies.
  • Provide feedback to parents, careers and AYC management on a pupil’s progress.

Minimum Requirement:

  • Diploma/Degree in Primary Education
  • Thorough understanding of the pedagogy and best practices of education.
  • Desire to teach secondary (high) school-aged children and their ability to adapt to their developmental status.
  • The ability to design lessons that engagingly teach the curriculum, applying various teaching methods such as the flipped classroom, lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent people skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
