Duties and Responsibilities

Scope Of The Work

Coordinate strategic partnerships and institutional capacity on energy issues

  • Manage and coordinate the implementation of all project activities;
  • Support the recruitment and coordination of project consultants, service providers;
  • Supervise and provide guidance to consultants and experts;
  • Ensure effective project monitoring, evaluation, quality assurance and reporting;
  • Liaise with all partners in all matters related to project implementation;
  • Organize Project Board meetings, including the preparation of meeting documents and materials;
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with development partners, UN agencies, government counterparts at all levels, private sector and civil society. In particular, contribute to increase UN joint programming on renewable energy deployment;
  • Strengthen and help advise government on policy planning and strengthen technical capacity of government officials;
  • Support the government’s partnerships with national and international partners to further tailor and expand programming related the implementation of clean energy with a focus exploring feasible models for increased renewable energy deployment;
  • Network regionally and globally using UNDP’s system and others where opportunities lie to stimulate and strengthen partnership with the government.

Qualification:

  • Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Energy, Engineering, Environment, Economics, Energy Finance or related field required.
  • At least 5 years of professional work experience providing policy advice and programme support in the general areas of energy access and renewable energy in different development contexts, preferably for off-grid electrification;
  • Proven experience with the design and/or implementation of development projects to promote energy investment is required;
  • Certification in Climate and Renewable Energy Finance is highly desirable;
  • Experience working in developing country settings is required;
  • Experience in Zimbabwe is an asset.
  • International experience working for UNDP or another international development organization in the energy field is an asset;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness; and
  • Have strong interest in innovations in the energy sector to enable the broader SDGs, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
