UNESCO Job Vacancy 2021

Job Purpose: The position falls under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education, guidance from the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa, and the direct supervision of the Team Leader -Education for Health and Well-being. The Project Officer- Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3 PLUS) will be responsible for supporting the Team Leader in the implementation and monitoring of the O3 PLUS project for the realization of positive health, education and gender equality outcomes for young people in Higher and Tertiary Institutions (HTEIs) in the Eastern and Southern Africa region particularly in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. S/he will be responsible for providing technical expertise on key thematic areas advancing comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) and access to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services for young people in HTEIs in the Eastern and Southern Africa region. S/he will contribute to the effective planning, implementation and monitoring of UNESCO’s work on Education for Health and Well-Being particularly in the HTEIs.

Qualification:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in education, social sciences, public health, or closely related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience in the education field, of which preferably two years acquired at the international level.
  • Experience in leading projects designed to address sexual and reproductive health issues of young people in higher and tertiary institutions.
  • Experience in teacher training and/or curriculum development.
  • Experience in joint programming i.e. implementation of programmes in collaboration with other stakeholders; UN Agencies, government, CSOs, etc.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of programme/projects in the field of education.

Skills and competencies

  • Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health rights, HIV prevention programming for young people particularly those in higher and tertiary education institutions, and comprehensive sexuality education in the context of ESA.
  • Credibility and confidence, with strong representational and partnership building skills at country and regional levels, and with a wide range of partners including ministries of education, UNAIDS and cosponsors, donors, civil society.
  • Strong understanding of the region and development.
  • Excellent organizational, networking and partnership building skills.
  • A track record in resource mobilization.
  • Ability to manage budgets and report on implementation.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy.
