Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the State Minister of Health, the Malaria Senior Technical Advisor will undertake the following tasks:
- Provide strategic leadership to the Malaria and Other Vector Borne Disease Prevention and Control Desk to develop and implement evidence-based policies and programs to get back on track towards malaria elimination by 2030.
- Lead coordinated efforts between the MoH and its partners/stakeholders for routine malaria programming as well as epidemic response and preparedness.
- Collaborate with TWGs and TAC members in reviewing and synthesizing evidence on malaria prevention, control, and elimination to inform policy briefs and advise MoH leadership.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global malaria developments and update MoH leadership, the Malaria and Other Borne Disease Prevention and Control Desk, and other malaria stakeholders in Ethiopia accordingly.
- Provide technical support to the Malaria and Other Borne Disease Prevention and Control Desk for the design and implementation of operational research.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of activities led by the Malaria and Other Borne Disease Prevention and Control Desk and provide recommendations for continuous program quality improvement.
- Represent His Excellency the State Minister of Health in national and international forums, including conferences and meetings on malaria elimination.

Required Qualification:
- PhD in public health, medical parasitology, infectious disease, or other related disciplines; or MD MPH.
- In-depth understanding of the Ethiopian healthcare system with a minimum of 10 years working with the MoH, development agencies, and/or other government or non-governmental partners working on malaria in Ethiopia.
- In-depth malaria technical knowledge, particularly in malaria prevention, case management, elimination, and operational research (Publications on malaria and other vector-borne diseases a plus).
- Expertise in program coordination and management; and demonstrated experience in bringing together multi-sectorial stakeholders, building consensus, and driving a common agenda.
- Ability to liaise with senior government officials and dignitaries, NGO executives, and senior members of the donor community to present updates and evidence, inform decisions, and develop policy briefs.
- Strong communication skills including a track record of documenting and sharing innovative initiatives and lessons learned.
- Advanced professional proficiency in English is required.
- Proficient in the use of the standard Microsoft Office package and statistical tools such as SPSS and R.
- Must have legal authorization to work in Ethiopia.
