The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) was established on 1 July 2010 by UN General Assembly Resolution 64/288. The Office integrated three existing offices: Department of Political Affairs (DPA) Liaison Office, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) AU Peace Support Team and the Department of Field Support (DFS) Planning Team for Somalia to support the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), as well as the support component of the United Nations and African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) Joint Support Coordination Mechanism (JCM) office in Addis Ababa.

UNOAU Job Vacancy 2023
Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Gender Adviser and overall guidance of the working group composed of UNOAU and AUC technical teams, the consultant shall: –
- Support in the identification and selection of nominees
- Conduct interview of nominees
- Support nominees in writing of their stories
- Compile and document the stories of the women/ Women CSOs
- Verify the information provided by nominees by conducting further desk reviews, contact-ing references provided by nominees and seeking more information through UN peace keep-ing & political missions, AU, RECs, member states, Civil Society and Non-Governmental organizations, operating in the area.
- Identify and collect appropriate images/ photography of nominees to be included in the sto-ry.
- Develop an agreed format /outline for the E-publication.
- Write and submit the selected 25 stories in a timely manner and in a professional and reader friendly style.
- Ensure adherence to UN and AU branding standards for language and presentation in writ-ing of the E-publication.
- Submit all scripts and information generated through the documentation stories including contact address of the women and organizations featured to the UNOAU contact person.
- Provide regular updates to the working group during the process of writing the E-book;
- Make a presentation of the draft E-Book with no errors to UNOAU & AUC task team and leadership.

Qualification & Experience:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, communication, journalism or other related. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in Gender Women peace and Security, conflict resolution or related area is required.
- Experience in journalism, communication, working remotely as well as drafting analytical documents is required.
- Field experience relevant to Women Peace and Security in Africa is desirable.
- Degree certificate.
