Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located within the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei. The Force Mobility Project Support Officer reports to the Chief Engineer.

Within delegated assignment, the Force Mobility Project Support Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

Planning, Design and supervision:

  • Contribute to overall planning and managing Horizontal works to be carried under Engineering Unit, for both current as well as future mission’s requirements.
  • Analyze and advise on the planning, design, construction and maintenance of roads, helipads and drainage system.
  • Conceptualize and develop mission specific Force Mobility Project and relevant plan enhancing force mobility in the mission.
  • Evaluate, review and revise works request and update the status of engineering heavy equipment.
  • Provide guidance to Force Mobility Contractor and Light Field Engineering Company and contractor’s personnel and supervise execution of Force mobility related works including roads, helipad construction repair and maintenance and drainage management.
  • Provide support and assistance to Project Manager of Engineering Project in the area of Force Mobility Enhancement
  • Travel to front locations and conduct on site assessment as a routine support to TCC (troop) and PCC (Police Contributing Country);
  • Provide Bill of Quantities and Bill of Materials for the specific assign project
  • Conduct Site Visit for the assessment, project design and supervision of construction/repair works. Provide input for the scheduling of projects implemented utilizing heavy engineering equipment under Engineering Unit
  • Draft working drawings/sketches, submit site photos report etc. (More Details Visit Official Notification).

Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications/special skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in the field camp management, Engineering, Infrastructure: roads/helipad construction utilizing heavy engineering equipment including drain management and construction monitoring and supervision is required.
  • Experience with standard techniques and practices for operation and maintenance of various types of engineering equipment is required. Experience planning and operation of road repair works in tasking to civilian contractors and military engineers’ company is required.
  • Experience in the horizontal ground works to enhance force mobility in a field/peacekeeping environment is desirable.
  • Prior experience in the military or police is desirable.

Languages:

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other UN official language is desirable.
