Task Description
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief of Field Office or her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Coordinator will:
- Provide technical support to implementing the Adolescent Development and Young Reports programme in Jonglei
- Provide technical inputs on designing and implementing interventions related to Adolescent and Young reporters, including state-level awareness creation and capacity-building activities for different stakeholders.
- Monitor the overall implementation of the Adolescent and Young Reporters programme, including budget execution in consultation with the CFO and section colleagues in Juba.
- Lead visibility component to ensure a high level of publicity of the initiative in consultation with the Communication section.
- Provide technical assistance to scale-up of the Young Reporters programme in Jonglei.
- Provide technical support to scale up the Young Reporters initiative in Bor, including preparation of key awareness materials and quarterly action plans and budgets.
- Coordinate day to day activities and engagement with the Young Reporters including recruitment, registration, training and liaison with YRs, their parents and schools
- Coordinate and manage Young Reporters involvement in key events and advocacy activities in line with UNICEF Young Reporters Programme Action Plan.
- Facilitate YRs engagement with key stakeholders such as State Government counterparts, UN agencies, NGO partners and the media.
- Mentor the Young Reporters and build their capacity in engaging with the Bor/Jonglei priority advocacy issues and activities.
- Support overall reporting, resource mobilization, and partnership.
- Contribute to overall reporting of the ongoing Adolescent and Young Reporters’ achievement, including presentation slides, inputs to donor reporting, human interest stories, etc.
- Contribute to developing concept notes and proposals tailor-made for specific donors to raise additional funds for the young reporter’s action.
- Leverage partnerships/contributions from like-minded agencies for joint interventions to amplify the voices of adolescent and young reporters.
- Work collaboratively with programme officers in the field for programme integration and to ensure the engagement of Young Reporters in sector-specific advocacies
- Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Eligibility Criteria
Required education level:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in Youth development, child protection, communications, public relations, journalism or another relevant technical field.
Required experience:
- 2 years of experience in communications, child protection, youth development, public relations, communications for development or related field.
- Experience in youth engagement and children mentorship in a UN system agency or organization is an asset.
- Knowledge of the duty station is considered an asset for this consultancy.
- Flexibility, understanding of local cultural and social practices are key success factors for this consultancy.
