National Union of Women with Disabilities of Uganda (NUWODU) is a women-led Disabled People’s Organization. It is legally registered in Uganda with the National NGO Board as a Non -Governmental Organization.

It was formed in 1999 by a group of women and youth with disabilities at a National conference held in Kampala Uganda as a result of violation of rights of women and girls with Disabilities, torture, barriers to social services, double discrimination, and lack of recognition by women’s Rights movement, Government and societal discrimination as a minority population in Uganda.

Purpose of the job:

The Program Officer will be responsible for overall coordination and implementation of the project activities including planning, budgets, implementation processes, partnership management and results.

Position: Sign Language Interpreters (2)

Duty Station: Kampala and Amuria

Reports to: Program Officer

Responsibilities and duties

  • Bridge the communication gap between the Deaf staff, hearing staff and NUWODU Deaf beneficiaries to understand what is being said in the variety of situations in office and in the field.
  • Ensure a conducive environment for interpretation services while conducting NUWODU activities.
  • Assist NUWODU Deaf staff while making telephone calls in relationship to NUWODU work.
  • Assist NUWODU staff with any added responsibilities as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Qualification

  • Diploma holder in Sign Language Interpretation from a recognized university.
  • Experience in serving as a Sign Language Interpreter in an organisation for at least 4 years.
  • Background to social work, development work or program work will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of the local language for Amuria applicants will be an added advantage.

  • The Job Holder must have at least 5 years working experience in project management and Implementation, Report Writing, monitoring and evaluation and resource mobilization.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Program Assistant will be responsible for day-to-day implementation of all activities in a timely manner.
  • Mobilize and form groups of women with disabilities and their households to benefit from the project activities.
  • Collect data, document, and report on women with disabilities.
  • Train communities, caregivers, and households of women with disabilities in rights.
  • Coordinate with Government and other stakeholders to address issues of women with disabilities.
  • Link groups of women with disabilities to benefit from government and partner programs available in the region.
  • Work closely with the districts and other partners to deliver quality interventions towards realization of rights of women with disabilities.

Qualification and Experience

  • The Program Assistant must possess a Diploma in the following fields: Development Studies, Social Work and Administration, Social Sciences, Adult and Community Psychology, Gender and Community Development, Disability studies and other related Humanities from Reputable Institutions.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to: Accountant

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Always maintain the cleanliness of the office premises.
  • Prepare teas and serve at an agreed upon time.
  • Do errands like purchase of minor office requirements.
  • Carry out photocopying, scanning and spiral binding as required.
  • Support staff with logistics and preparations during meetings and workshops.
  • Manage and plan for the costs of office supplies.
  • Ensure security for the staff while at the office.

Qualification and Experience

  • A diploma in Office Administration.
  • The Job Holder must have at least 2 years’ working experience as an office attendant.
  • Proven ability to work in teams.
  • Knowledgeable in Gender and Disability issues
  • Experienced in working with persons with disabilities.

Position: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to: Programmes Manager

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with establishing monitoring and evaluation system using relevant M&E Toolkit.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the project’s M&E plan.
  • Coordinate and assist monitoring and evaluation data collection activities, including logistics of form distribution and collection.
  • Coordinate and assist data processing, including data transfer, entry, verification, and cleaning.
  • File forms according to compliance protocols.
  • Coordinate internal communication on M&E progress and results.
  • Coordinate temporary M&E staff or consultants (e.g., data entry personnel).
  • Assist with M&E database management.

Qualification and Experience

  • The ideal employee must hold a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, quantitative economics, or a related field. A Post Graduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience with M&E systems, data collection, and reporting.
  • Experience with monitoring project implementation.
  • Experience in electronic data collection, data cleaning and verification as well as data processing.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel for data analysis, including use of formulas, functions, and calculations to analyze data required.
  • Ability to use both quantitative (e.g., SPSS, Stata, etc.) and qualitative methods.
  • Ability to balance work within a team environment while working with minimal supervision.

Reports to: Program Officer

Responsibilities and duties

  • Advice NUWODU on issues concerning vehicle registration, maintenance, and repair.
  • Participate in the vehicle purchase and advice NUWODU on the best models and types of vehicles to procure.
  • Ensure that NUWODU vehicles are in good running condition and clean.
  • Transport NUWODU staff and Board of Directors to fulfil NUWODU duties.
  • Ensure security of the vehicles.
  • Transport project equipment, materials, supplies, and documents to project sites.
  • Keep records of mileage covered and maintain the vehicle logbook.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Clean driving record for at least 5 years.
  • Ability to drive for extended periods.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Excellent navigational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with working with persons with disabilities especially women.
  • Experience in NGO work and knowledge of the local language is an added advantage.

Position: Communications Officer

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to: Program Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on content creation for social media channels, newsletters, and print media.
  • Lead on managing NUWODU’s social media channels in line with her communication strategy.
  • Regularly update and manage NUWODU’s website.
  • Create and curate engaging content relevant to the gender and disability rights movements.
  • Monitoring and reporting on social media analytics and supporting digital campaigns where necessary
  • Provide communications support for both online and in person fundraising events.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Postgraduate diploma in Communications, journalism, or related, relevant subject.
  • Five years’ work experience and at least 3 years of demonstrated experience in Communications for disability development.
  • Significant experience of developing accessible and engaging content for all social media platforms.
  • Significant experience of managing social media platforms, and improving reach and engagement metrics
  • Experience of writing and editing blogs, newsletters, and newspaper articles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong understanding of the importance of ethical communications, consent and the safe storage and usage of images.
  • Ability to prioritize, implement, and deliver high-quality work within tight timelines and with minimal supervision.
  • Affinity in working with persons with disabilities especially women with disabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work and build relationships with team members and partners from diverse backgrounds.

Position: Accountant

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to: Finance and Administration Manager

Purpose of the job:

  • To work closely with the Finance and Administration Manager and Finance and Administration Assistant in ensuring the safe custody of all NUWODU’s funds and ensure that cash transactions are balanced daily.

Qualification and Experience

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business Administration from a recognized College or university.
  • Minimum level 3 ACCA or CPA Qualification or equivalent is desired.
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience in a similar position in Finance / Accounting and office Administration.
  • At least 3 years of experience with a local NGO is required.
  • Have computer proficiency in financial software and spreadsheet.
  • proficiency in mobile money payment systems.
  • Familiarity with USAID, UN and EU regulations is essential.

Position: Accounts Assistant

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to: Accountant

Financial responsibilities

  • Assist Accountant to ensure safe custody of NUWODU’s funds.
  • Assist Accountant to receipt and bank cash balances from activities.
  • Prepare payment vouchers as delegated by accountant.
  • Ensure proper filling of financial records.
  • Review mobile money requests forms and process them for payments inline with NUWODU’s financial policies and procedures.
  • As part of the Finance and Administration team, ensure that NUWODU ‘s policies and procedures and donor regulations are strictly adhered to.

Qualification and Experience

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business Administration from a recognized College or university.
  • Minimum level 2 ACCA or CPA Qualification or equivalent is desired.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a similar position in Finance / Accounting and office Administration.
  • Have computer proficiency in financial software and spreadsheet.
  • Familiarity with USAID, UN and EU regulations is essential.

Position: Head of Secretariat

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to: Chairperson Board of Directors

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Lead the organizational planning processes and ensure the preparation of organizational plans and budgets for approval by NUWODU Board of Directors
  • Ensure that the staff activities are aligned to the strategic plan and that the staff clearly understand their individual roles and contributions to the
  • overall NUWODU strategy.
  • Oversee programmes and financial implementation, monitoring and evaluation, checking that NUWODU quality standards are met and taking remedial action where necessary.
  • Provide substantive advice to the Board of Directors and Senior Management on the Organizations strategy, direction and planning of programmes and projects.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Gender studies, Human Rights Development Studies, Social and Policy Development and any related discipline.
  • The Job holder should possess at least 9 years’ experience at managerial or senior level in NGO or similar sector supporting vulnerable categories. With focus on Gender, Disability and Women Empowerment.

Responsible for: Accountant and Finance and Administration Assistant

Purpose of the Job:

  • The Finance and Administration Manager will be responsible for providing financial and Administration management support to NUWODU. She/he will be the overseer of financial and administration operations of the organization.
  • The Job holder is responsible for budgeting, ensuring internal control systems and review of on-site financial accounting and bookkeeping systems required to assure the integrity and effective performance of NUWODU’s financial operations.
  • The job holder will actively participate in the development, adaptation, or implementation of financial and administrative systems to ensure optimal support to NUWODU.

Qualification and experience

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business Administration. Possession of a master’s in business administration is an added advantage.
  • Professional accounting qualification ACCA, CPA (U) or equivalent is desired.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in Finance or Accounting at Supervisory or Management level.
  • Have practical experience in QuickBooks accounting package.
  • Previous supervisory experience in office administration.
  • Familiarity with USAID, UN and EU regulations is essential.
  • Experience with NGO is required.
  • Demonstrated budgeting, budget monitoring and financial reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in proposal development.

Position: Programme Manager

Responsible for: Program Officers

Purpose of the Job

  • The Program Manager will be responsible for effective and efficient management and implementation of NUWODU’s Programs in Uganda.
  • She/he will provide technical competence on Gender Equality, Women’s Empowerment and Disability.
  • She/he will lead the formulation, management, implementation, and evaluation of program activities within his/her portfolio and provide technical guidance to Project Officers, membership and DPOs on Gender mainstreaming.
  • She/he will ensure effective design, planning, implementation, smooth communication, monitoring and evaluation, including documentation and reporting on programs and projects.
  • She/he will have overall responsibility to coordinate all the programmes / projects in the organization.
  • She/he will be expected to participate in proposal development and fundraising events for the organization.

Qualification and Experience

  • The Job Holder must possess a master’s or Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Development studies
  • and Gender and Disability Studies and Human Rights and any other relevant course.
  • The Job Holder must have at least 5 years working experience in project management and Implementation, Report Writing, monitoring and evaluation and resource mobilization.
  • Held supervisory position of staff under his/her department.
  • Knowledgeable in Gender and Disability issues.
