Red Cross Society Job Vacancy 2023

Job Purpose:

  • The Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) Supervisor will be responsible to oversee, plan and manage the operations of the FSTP at Imvepi Refugee Settlement to ensure a comprehensive and effective management system is in place. The role shall include establishing and defining the objectives as well as goals of the National Society at the FSTP; working with staff and volunteers to help implement the guiding policies of waste disposal and evaluating the actual success of waste management plans following implementation.

  • Title: Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) Supervisor (1 position)
  • Grade: UR 4
  • Reports: Director Disaster Risk Management
  • Location: Imvepi Refugee Settlement
  • Duration: TBC
  • Date: August 2023

Qualification:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Bio-Systems Engineering, Water Engineering, or any related field from an approved, recognized and reputable university.

Experience

  • Minimum of Five (5) years’ professional experience in implementing & Managing WASH projects; two (2) of the years with supervisory responsibilities;
  • Experience in a sewage treatment plant with focus on Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant Management is desired.
  • Education/Training in recycling/end-use of faecal and solid waste management and recycling is an asset.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • High level of integrity
  • Working knowledge with Private sector/state cooperation/government especially in water and sanitation involving waste management
  • Excellent computer skills with high proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to run specific related software.
  • Sound understanding of the project management cycle and related tools.
  • Knowledge of electronic data collection systems and data editing/analysis.
  • Knowledge of Emergency Response Protocols and sphere standards for service delivery is an asset.
  • Familiar with present Government, WHO and FAO standards regarding wastewater management and discharge /recycling guidelines.
  • Able to lead and implement tasks and project activities independently.
  • Skilled in technical management, time management of projects and tasks and in technical guidance for project teams.
  • Ability too Independently monitoring and steering effective operations of a waste management system.
  • Being able to work with different stake holders, also remote, and to incorporate their technical guidance in the processes.
  • Strong demonstrated skill working with external partners and bringing several stakeholders together for a common goal, sensitivity to cross cutting aspects of gender, environment, and disability inclusion.
  • Good initiative, strong decisiveness, and self-motivated, to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proactive and immediate communication of issues and difficulties experienced to enable quick response.
  • Good interpersonal skills and working relations with staff under his/her supervision and other stakeholders.

  • High flexibility regarding movements, working days and hours.

  • A valid motorcycle riding permit, including the ability to ride and care for a motorcycle.
