Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc Honours or MSc in Computer Science or combination of relevant education, experience, and training.
- 5-years of hands-on engineering experience developing systems and working with big data.
Knowledge and Skills:
- A strong problem solving and analytical approach. Excels at critical thinking.
- Able to influence and communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with team members, business partners and leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve both people- and process-related issues.
- Expert understanding of software solutions and technical software design.
- Excellent communication skills and experience in conveying complex information in easy-to-understand language.
- Understand the ecosystem of diverse skills that need to come together to make large-scale Programming projects successful. Extensive and/or in-depth knowledge of software development, data science, and machine learning.
- Demonstrated experience in leading technical projects at enterprise scale and managing a team through all stages of the software development and data science lifecycle.
- Strong familiarity with modern software practices, technologies and programming languages, such as Python, R (shiny), SQL, Git, Java, Dart (Flutter).
- Strong knowledge of web API development (FastAPI or similar)
- Strong familiarity with the Agile development process and proven ability to prepare a project plan, communicate the plan to the team and break the work down to trackable tasks.
- Proven track record of effectively collaborating with multi-functional partners to identify new opportunities, solve complex conservation/business problems and build impactful tooled data management and analytics solutions.
- Deep knowledge and experience with a diversity of tools and platforms (Prefer experience w/ R (shiny), Python, JavaScript, Spark). Able to quickly pick up new programming languages, technologies, and frameworks.
- First-hand experience working with Docker, Git, AWS, or other cloud environments services is a strong plus
