The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is a United Nations peacekeeping force in Abyei, which is contested between the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan. UNISFA was approved on 27 June 2011 by the United Nations Security Council in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1990 after a flareup in the South Kordofan conflict earlier in June 2011.

UNISFA Job Vacancy 2023

Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located in the Community Liaison Office of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), duty station Abyei. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief, Community Liaison Office or their designate.

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in law or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in liaison-related work with UN Peace Operations, UN Funds and Programmes, National or International NGOs, or community-based organizations, research institutions, etc. is required. Of these, a minimum of 2 years should have been in the field, in a conflict management and reconciliation position requiring facilitation, mediation or negotiation skills.
  • Possession of experience in facilitating structured dialogue events between different parties and reconciliation activities. Experience in programme management is required.
  • Experience in justice and accountability and programme management is desirable.

Languages:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
