Task description

Under the direct supervision of the team leader of the Outreach Unit, the National UN Volunteer will support vulnerable women and girls in communities who are victims of SEA and will undertake the following tasks:

  • Performing community outreach activities in support of the mission’s CDT which are in line with the Secretary-General’s new strategy on Special measures for the protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (A/71/818).
  • Assisting with the development of public information strategies with specific deliverables in partnership with UN agencies, UNMISS sections, civil society, and local authorities.
  • Supporting the implementation of the strategic planning of outreach campaigns.
  • Participating in the organization of workshops with key leaders, youth, and women groups to enhance public information amid a better knowledge of UN standards of conduct and reporting mechanisms amongst the local population, which might include the distribution of assistance kits for victims of SEA. Assisting with the implementation of the trust fund project in support of victims of SEA.
  • Assisting with developing productions and disseminating information and/or outreach materials (booklets, posters, videos) on topics related to Conduct and Discipline, including Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) in partnership with UNMISS, UN agencies and [international and national] non-Governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Providing public information inputs for action by the Public Information Office (PIO) and producing materials for UN Radio.
  • Helping to establish and maintain good relationships with military and UN police information units and other relevant units.
  • Contributing to CDT ‘s risk assessments with feedback from local communities, preparing reports and monitoring of CDT work plan with regards to outreach; and
  • Performing other duties related to the daily functioning of CDT.
  • Supporting the implementation of the SG’s Trust Fund in support of victims of SEA.

Eligibility Criteria

Required education level:

  • Technical/vocational diploma in General Law, Peacebuilding and conflict resolution or related fields.

Required experience:

  • 3 years of experience in Community Outreach activities are required
  • Experience in assisting and supporting victims of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse is required
  • Due to the sensitivity of the position, female candidates are more desirable
  • Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc.) and other office technology equipment.
  • The successful candidate should have a strong interest in humanitarian relief, post conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development and a strong understanding of the UN System.

  • English, Level: Fluent, Required
  • Arabic, Level: Mother tongue, Desirable
