VSO Job Vacancy 2023

Responsibilities:

Transport

  • Transport staff, VSO volunteers and other personnel to and from various destinations, including long trips which may last for several days.
  • Maintain a log book for all vehicles.
  • Support the Operations Officer to ensure that all fuel cards are operating correctly.
  • Ensure vehicles are in sound mechanical condition ready for program activities by conducting daily checks and maintenance.
  • Maintain the vehicles in a clean condition at all times.
  • Ensure vehicles have all essential equipment such as umbrella, map, fire extinguisher, toolkit, torch, medical kit etc.
  • Ensure car service schedules are adhered to.
  • Ensuring that vehicles are safe and secure at all times.
  • Plan routes and estimate requirements for field trips, preparing funding requests as appropriate.
  • Fulfil other duties such as picking up and delivering items and running errands.
  • Guide external service providers on what requires to be done on vehicles; also verifying work done by external service providers upon return of the vehicle.

Logistical support

  • In collaboration with other key staff, support logistics department with the handling of household equipment for volunteers.
  • Support the Logistics Assistant with housing for volunteers in the location of placement.
  • Support during ICO and for new volunteers while settling into their placements
  • Support and maintain the documentation system for vehicles operations and liaise with administrative staff to maintain set guidelines.
  • Support the Logistics Assistant on the scheduling of transport for the team
  • Support the Logistics Assistant with the maintenance and servicing of the Generator including oil top-up and fuel top-up.

Qualification:

  • A valid and clean driver’s license
  • At least four years driving skill for class B (up to 7 passengers).
  • Working knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of vehicles.
  • Knowledge of basic automotive maintenance procedures
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Well organized and able to develop an operational schedule.
  • A good team worker, hardworking, dedicated and committed.
  • Good standard of written and spoken English
  • Experience and knowledge of the region in question

Desirable:

  • Experience in the operation of large four-wheel drive vehicles
  • Experience of working in the humanitarian sector.
  • Knowledge local languages.
