Purpose of the Assignment: UNICEF South Africa (SACO) is seeking to obtain consulting services from a qualified individual consultant to explore the use of DRONE technology for data readiness in emergency preparedness and response. Under the supervision of the PMRE Manager, with a dotted line to the Emergency Preparedness/ Response Focal Point and Deputy Representative, the consultant will develop a business case for the use of DRONE technology to collect data to support emergency preparedness and response including recommendations on how to build national capacity in this area.
Eligibility Criteria
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in information technology, social science (Data and monitoring), international development, or comparable academic preparation.
- A minimum of (8) years of professional experience working in emergency preparedness and response with a focus on information management, data, monitoring and/ or programme planning /management is required.
- Experience working in disaster management in South Africa is required.
- Familiarity with the use of DRONE technology in disaster management is required.
- Excellent soft skills, teamwork, and flexibility
- Excellent knowledge of English and strong analytical and writing skills
- Full working knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Skype for Business, Zoom, and other presentation platforms.
- Experience delivering results independently and at a distance in a timely fashion.
- Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
