IGCP Uganda looking for “School Principal”.

IGCP was formed in 1991 to address the long-term conservation of the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and its regional afromontane forest habitat in the Virunga Bwindi Landscape. Our aim has been to work together as a single gorilla conservation program in order to expand and consolidate the successes of the Mountain Gorilla Project and other initiatives at a regional level.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Educational Leadership: Provide visionary leadership and strategic planning to ensure the school’s educational goals and objectives are achieved. Foster a culture of high academic standards, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • School Administration and Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. Ensure compliance with educational policies, regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Curriculum Development and Instructional Excellence: Collaborate with teachers, department heads, and curriculum coordinators to develop and implement a comprehensive and effective curriculum. Monitor and support instructional practices, providing guidance and professional development opportunities to teachers.
  • Student and Staff Welfare: Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students and staff. Address student welfare issues, behavior management, and disciplinary matters in collaboration with teachers, counselors, and support staff.
  • Teacher and Staff Management: Recruit, hire, and evaluate teachers and staff, ensuring a qualified and motivated workforce. Provide mentoring, professional development, and support to enhance teacher effectiveness and job satisfaction.
  • Parent and Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with parents/guardians, involving them in their child’s education and encouraging their active participation in school activities. Collaborate with community stakeholders, organizations, and local authorities to strengthen community partnerships.
  • Student Support Services: Collaborate with counselors, special educators, and support staff to provide appropriate support services for students with diverse learning needs. Monitor student progress, identify and address barriers to learning, and ensure access to necessary resources and interventions.
  • School Improvement and Accountability: Develop and implement school improvement plans, setting measurable goals and targets for student achievement and school performance. Analyze data, conduct assessments and use evidence-based practices to drive continuous improvement.
  • Public Relations and Communication: Serve as the spokesperson for the school, maintaining effective communication channels with stakeholders, media, and the public. Promote the school’s achievements, programs, and initiatives to enhance its reputation and community support.
  • Professional Development and Personal Growth: Stay updated on educational research, trends, and best practices through continuous professional development. Seek opportunities for personal growth and leadership development to enhance effectiveness in the role.
  • Resource Allocation: Optimize resource allocation, including budget management, to support academic and extracurricular activities.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in the related field
  • Possession of a valid teachers teaching license and any relevant certifications.
  • Professional working experience of 20 Years, of which a minimum of 10 years attained in a leadership role at the same or equivalent level in sizeable working school experience.
  • Ability to provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the school community. Strong instructional leadership skills with a deep understanding of effective teaching strategies and curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, educational standards, and assessment practices.
  • Skill in supporting and fostering the professional growth of teachers and staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders effectively.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities to address various school-related challenges.
  • A focus on promoting student-cantered learning and holistic development.
  • Proficiency in developing and executing plans aligned with the school’s vision and goals.
