Job Purpose

  • The National Director (ND) will strategically lead, develop and direct the implementation of all aspects of World Vision Ministry in the National Office. In performing this role, the ND will be an effective member of the World Vision Partnership, and will model the organization’s principles of Twin Citizenship to ensure high ministry quality and impact. The ND as a leader will contribute to partnership life and unity, by acting as both a local and global representative of the organization. The ND will lead the Uganda team to achieve the country’s strategy in alignment with Our Promise for effective operations.

Qualification:

  • Relevant Master’s Degree
  • A minimum of 10 years management experience, 5 of which should have been at National/Country Director or similar level in complex development programming. Experience with WV integrated programming areas (Education, Health & Nutrition (including WASH), Resilience & Livelihoods and Child Protection) desired. Experience in microfinance operations and Humanitarian Emergency Assistance a plus.
  • Demonstrable track record in working with and Board(s) and leading senior leadership teams.
  • Experience in managing diverse, strategic and time sensitive projects;
  • Successful past experience in overseeing large grants and working with government donors (USAlD, EU, DFAT, FCDO, etc.), UN agencies (WFP, UNHCR, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of human rights approaches, and particularly child rights.
  • Understanding of advocacy execution, national advocacy strategy development and leading advocacy campaigns.
  • Ability to nurture relationships, build strong teams and hold staff accountable so as to drive organizational performance.
  • Good knowledge of financial management and budgetary control principles.
  • Ability to organize and lead fundraising/resource mobilization efforts with major private donors, corporate organizations and governments, as well as to secure donor funding and sustainably grow organizational financial portfolio.
  • Clear communicator (in both verbal and written form) with ability to present persuasively to Board, Senior Management Team, staff, donors, NGOs, government officials, community leaders and other stakeholders and partners.
  • Versatility with use of new communication technologies and platforms to engage a variety of audiences, and an ability to drive strengthened use of such in order to enhance brand recognition.
  • Committed Christian appreciative of denominational diversities and differences in Christian traditions, with a strong passion for child well-being.
  • Comfortable with working with multi-cultural teams, gender aware and with well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity and willingness to abide by the NGO Red Cross Code of Conduct, the People in Aid Code and Sphere Minimum Standards, etc.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Experience with large bilateral and multilateral grant acquisition (and compliance). Deep knowledge of UN humanitarian architecture and donor community.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make tough decisions.
  • Proven visionary and strategic abilities.
  • Achieving quality results and service, practicing accountability and integrity, and communicating information effectively.
  • Thinking clearly, deeply and broadly, understanding the humanitarian industry, understanding World Vision’s mission and operations, and practicing innovation and change.
  • Building collaborative relationships, practicing gender and cultural diversity, and influencing individuals and groups.
  • Actively supporting World Vision’s Christian identity. Role models biblical ethics and principles in action.
  • Develops diverse, high-performing teams through effective recruitment, coaching and team-building. Promotes learning for growth and development.
  • Responsible steward of resources and assets.
  • Strong understanding of MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning) and Transformational Development processes preferred.
  • Experience and/or understanding of advocacy execution, national advocacy strategy development and leading advocacy efforts as a pillar of a theory of change.
