The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2023
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of Head, IMU, and guidance of developed Appraisal guidelines the incumbent will perform the following duties.
- Appraise the legacy records and other non – current UN-HABITAT records to determine their evidential value and/or informational value as guided by staff in the unit.
- Process the appraised records according to the established criteria ie series/records group.
- Arrange the archives according to the identified records series or established record groups.
- List the records recommended for destruction and implement the records disposal action
- Enter the information regarding the archived records
Qualification & Experience:
- Completed secondary education, high school, or equivalent diploma is required. Training in Archives and Records management/ Information Management course is required. Additional technical training is an added advantage.
- At least five years of practical experience in Archives Administration with emphasize on records appraisal.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
