The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2023
Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will work closely with the UN-Habitat team to support delivering the components 1 and 3 of the first and the last phase. The consultant is responsible for assessing the state and the funding of the municipality, and defining prioritized infrastructure investments and linkage to financing, more specifically;
- Review of IFIs and external donors’ investment pipelines – Sourcing the status of the projects (planned and unbudgeted and unplanned projects).
- Identified the investors in the area of study and capitalized on their strategies
- Validation of planned and unplanned, and unbudgeted projects information (CAPEX, location, timeline etc.) with relevant authorities
- Identified the sectors of projects invested and the ones that will be invested
- Finalised capital investment list (as per template)
- Analysis of the institutional capacity of the CUD and CAD 3 Municipality team in dealing with investors/financiers and managing urban projects.
Qualification:
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Urban Economy and Development or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience:
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of urban economic research and analysis,
- policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or projects is required.
- Understanding of and experience from managing urban data is an asset;
- Experience working with development banks and private sector as well as on municipal and urban finance issues is an asset;
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (and their monitoring/evaluation) and of the New Urban Agenda is an asset;
Languages:
Fluency in French and English, written and verbal, is required. Knowledge in any other language of the Programme is an asset.
